Resumen
El artículo analiza la competitividad del sistema financiero en la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, durante el período 2019-2023. La investigación responde a la pregunta sobre cómo ha evolucionado la competitividad de este sistema financiero en términos de cobertura, inclusión y profundización financiera, considerando las particularidades económicas y sociales de la región. El estudio se fundamenta en la teoría del desarrollo financiero, que resalta el papel fundamental de los sistemas financieros para promover el crecimiento económico sostenible, facilitar el acceso al crédito y reducir la pobreza. Se utilizó una metodología cuantitativa y un diseño longitudinal para medir indicadores como la cobertura de establecimientos financieros, inclusión financiera y profundidad de cartera comercial, empleando datos del Consejo Privado de Competitividad. Los resultados evidencian que, aunque Cartagena ha mostrado avances significativos en inclusión financiera, aún enfrenta desafíos en cobertura y profundización comparado con otras ciudades del país, como Bogotá y Medellín. Se concluye que se requieren políticas públicas más efectivas para fortalecer la infraestructura financiera y fomentar la competencia. Las futuras investigaciones podrían enfocarse en el impacto de la digitalización financiera y las fintechs en la competitividad regional.
